A Little About Me

My name is Melissa Young.  I love to travel, read, make crafts, and cook.  I also teach VPI preschool and have little time to travel, read, or cook during the school year.  My favorite places I've been to area the United Kingdom, France, and Hawaii.  I love to cook any pasta dish and of course BBQ.  Cooking and danger (fire), what a great combination when making a good beef brisket.
                                                        Hawaii's green sand beach

I shared a picture of my favorite trip of all time.  My trip to Hawaii.  We took an entire day and hiked out to the green sand beach.  It's off the tourist tours, so you have to rent a car and drive yourself.  After driving several hours to the mostly unpopulated side of The Big Island, then you have to hike in for about two hours to actually get to the green sand beach.  This beach is so far off the beaten path that we were the only people on the beach the day we hiked in.  In Hawaii, that's very rare to say about any beach, but it was on my bucket list in life.  There is only one green sand beach in the world besides the one on Hawaii's Big Island.  It was a once in a lifetime experience.

I graduated from Magna Vista High School, Averett University (undergraduate), and Radford University (Masters).  I have taught for fourteen years in Henry County and now have the best job in the world, teaching VPI preschool.  However, I have also taught first grade and second grade.  I also worked in a classroom at Long Lane Church of England Primary in Derbyshire England as an undergraduate.  It was a very small, rural two room school house built in 1857.  I worked for about one month in one room with four to seven year olds and for the second month in the room with the seven to thirteen year olds.
